Pull Yourself Up By Your Own Happiness

Thinking happy thoughts creates a release of chemicals in the brain that promote happy feelings. Then the happy feelings morph into thoughts of happiness and more chemicals are released to create more and more happy feelings and around and around in a biofeedback loop.

I invite you to continue reading and then to try the short exercise at the end of this article.

In the realm of our intricate neural landscape, let’s begin our journey with a familiar concept: the diode (a basic component of your computer). Picture it like a tiny gate for electricity, allowing it to flow in just one direction. Now, shift this idea to the brain’s synapses, those crucial junctions where neurons communicate.

In our mental symphony, neurotransmitters (brain chemicals), are like messengers that pass the baton of signals from one part of the brain to another. It’s a bit like a choreographed dance where the movement of electrical impulses in the brain triggers the release of these messengers, influencing our thoughts and emotions.

Now, imagine this process as a dialogue between neurons, where thoughts are transmitted through electrical signals. It’s a conversation, a series of whispers across our brain, shaping our experiences. A diode’s one-way street becomes the stage for this intricate ballet.

Let’s draw a parallel with the straightforward nature of a battery with direct current (DC). If our thoughts were like DC, we’d absorb experiences without much reflection, a one-way absorption. But life, in its dynamic beauty, is more akin to alternating current (AC), oscillating back and forth.

Enter self-awareness – the ability to see both sides of the coin. It’s a key player in our journey. By recognizing the ebb and flow of experiences, we tap into a Kabbalistic technique of word permutations, exploring perspectives inside out and outside in. It’s a bit like doing mental acrobatics.

This exploration becomes a form of biofeedback, a way of understanding and influencing our own mental dance. By contemplating various viewpoints, we find the power to choose those that generate the  neurotransmitters of happiness. This choice impacts our mood, sparking a positive feedback loop.

Here’s where the magic happens – the realization that our emotions are not permanent. It’s like knowing the weather changes; it gives us the resilience to navigate the storms with a sense of calm. Distractions and the extra weight of misunderstandings fall away, revealing a path to happiness.

So, in this journey from the simplicity of a diode’s directional flow to the dance of neurotransmitters and the wisdom of self-awareness, we discover the ability to pull ourselves up by our own happiness. It’s an uplifting, cyclical process where understanding our mental symphony becomes the key to a peaceful and joyful existence.

Try this and experience the feedback loop yourself:

This has a stronger result if you actually write down the experiences and not just think about them.

Make a list of 5 to 10 happy memories or experiences.

Read through the happy list. How do you feel?
