Charging your happiness battery 9-22-2018

Most of the time we are in between two states of mind/body/spirit. The first is shenpa a Tibetan term for the uncomfortable state of mind/body that grabs you and will not stop. It feels like a vise that is tight around your chest. Your mind is wanting to be anywhere else or to explode in lashing out. The other is the beautiful energetic light airy state of flowing zone. The world is right and you are flowing along either at a peak experience of athletic sport, creative endeavor or simple being completely absorbed in whatever you are doing. Thee is a sense of enjoyment, happiness and ease.

 

Both of these states may arise due to circumstances that come to you from the outside or from your own internal mechanisms. News you either like or dislike. A pleasant or unpleasant experience or body sensation. Winning a lottery or being in a traffic accident.

 

The states between shenpa and flowing zone can be labeled as emotions from love to hate, peace to terror or desire to aversion. Is the state you find yourself in due to whatever the circumstance created from the outside circumstances or from your inside reaction to those circumstances? Do you have any say in how you are feeling?

Try this:

 

I have listed seven emotional states below. Take one minute to review these words in the following manner. As you think, whisper or pronounce each word place your attention on the feelings, sensations and thoughts you are experiencing.

 

  1. Take a full comfortable breath in and out.
  2. Read the words from the bottom of the list to the top.
  3. As you think each word place attention on what you are feeling and thinking.

  2. Whisper the words from the bottom of the list to the top.
  3. As you whisper each word place attention on what you are feeling and thinking.

  2. Pronounce each word from the bottom of the list to the top.

BLISSFUL

HAPPY

PLAYFUL

CONTENTED

FRUSTRATED

ANGERED

FEARFUL

 

As any amount of time your phone is plugged in and charging it gains battery percentage.   So to with your mind/body/spirit.   Moving your thoughts and feelings from the bottom of the list towards the top raises your level of happiness. At any time you may recall this list or make up your own. Even if you can move up only one word you will be gaining energy and becoming more joyful. With practice you will be able to direct your internal mind/body/spirit in the direction of your choosing.
