Friend or Foe Food or Poison 12-15-2018

One of the benefits of watching your breath from time to time is that it returns you to the present moment.  The first aspect of watching is to locate the most prominent sensation that you can feel as the air, your breath, moves in and out.  You may feel the sensation of the movement of your chest or abdomen going up and down.  Or you may feel the sensation of the air as it passes through your nose and throat.  The key is to become aware of the sensation which happens only in the present moment.

Along with this sensation into what is happenng is the opportunity to also become more conscious of what you are doing and how you feel about it.  Is it friend or foe; food or poison?  Most likely whatever is happening will fit into one of these four basic categories.

Friend or foe

If it is a friendly thought embrace it and relish in the good sensation. If it is foe let it go.  Whatever you place you attention on will build energy; positive or negative.  If it is food that is good for you embrace.  If poison spit it out.

Very often we are lost in thoughts of the past of future.  Thoughts of liking or disliking fill our minds.  We are tossed as if by the winds of a storm just trying to maintain our balance, our position while reaching for more. Imagine being able to separate the thoughts of friend or foe, food or poison and thereby build and embrace more of the natural happiness that is available.

By using attention to the breath as an anchor to the present moment you can then feel the pull of Spiritual Gravity pulling you through the maze of momentary choices between friend or foe, food or poison.
