The Taste Of Presence

Before the mind jumps in with names and stories,
pause and gently open your senses—

Start with sight, let the eyes open wide to the full field.
Take in everything without needing to name it,
then listen without trying to label each sound.

Notice how thoughts arise, like chunks in the flow,
distractions breaking the smoothness of this moment.
Let them be, but don’t hold on—
allow the edges to soften and blend,
until the mind feels like a gentle stream of awareness,
flowing clear, steady, and whole.

At first, the mind may feel like marmalade,
coarse and chunky, filled with bits of old stories and feelings.
Then it softens to preserves—
still some texture, but less jagged,
not quite fully connected,
until it smooths further to jam—
small interruptions floating in the flow.

Finally, it becomes like jelly—
one even consistency, no separation, smooth
just abiding presence:
I am here, aware.
