Years ago when Yogi Berra told us “It’s like deja-vu all over again,” I thought it was just a funny thing to think about. Now after a few decades of my thinking, he as usual, was right.
How similar is karma to deja-vu? What if Yogi had said, “It’s like karma all over again.”
Would he be right? Let’s say that karma is meant to be the actions that we do today are a result or are influenced by the past actions that we have done. Then what we do now is “like” what we have done before. We have gotten into a groove and it repeats. Thus it is like karma or deja-vu all over again.
So what about habits? When we do something routinely over time it sometimes develops into a habit, right? When we exhibit the action of that habit we find the same doing it all over again.
Fortunately we can transform and morph our actions either by chance, luck or intention.
We can find and develop the skill of intuition that springs from more of a kinesthetic awareness. This is enhanced by growing the ability of mindfulness of bodily sensations.
This may begin with widening the awareness of internal triggers or precursors to unwanted emotional states before they grow and become to difficult to let go of.
Practice:
Without moving scan your body from head to toe. Wiggle your toes. What do you feel? Breath in through your nose. Can you feel the coolness of the air? Listen for sounds that are close by and sounds that are farther away. Move your tongue around the inside of your teeth and feel their edges. Sit up straighter. Lower your shoulders. Notice any colors that you can see.
Now ask yourself the question. “What is happening right now?” Do not answer the question but just let it settle. Watch for the internal sensations that arise. Begin to sense how and what you are feeling rather than what you are thinking. Turn off the non stop radio playing in your head for a moment. Just feel.
When you have time practice this and gradually your sense of intuitive gut responses, your intuition, will spring into awareness. You will find you begin to have more choice in noticing whether you are acting by habit, karma, deja-vu or by intuition. This proves to be hugely beneficial in reducing the distress in life and experiencing more happiness.
