Dropping resistance 1-2-3 5-12-2018

Well it is another day and another chance to connect with the inside of me.

This write is about chosing early so that you have an opportunity to come close to equanimity.   The earlier you make a decision the less stuff that you have to thread your way through to get back to the sense of centered balance and the sensation of luminosity which is experienced during meditation and can be raised up to the eyes and perceived as light.

This visualization is something that we are all very familiar with. It’s  as easy as 1,2,3

Actually it is 1,2,3

You use three breaths

On the first you get ready  — and know that you want to choose being centered and balanced

On the second you get set —  and choose to let go of the want for things to be different

On the third you surrender into your center

The visual is picturing being held by your hands and feet by two friends

See yourself being swayed up and back next to a swimming pool or huge pile of feathers

feather

On one, you hear your friends say, “get ready” see yourself being swung to one side and you think I want to be centered and balanced as you breath out.

On two,  you hear your friends say, “get set” as you are swung again by hands and wrists and you choose to let go of the hurt, the disappointment, the anger as you breath out.

On three, you hear your friends say,  “go” and you feel and see yourself floating through the air and surrender into the free fall back into your centered self as you breath out.

The key here is to let go of whatever the problem is as quickly as possible. If you can do it on, one, without the visual that may even be better. But for the rest of us mortals it takes a little more time. Three breaths is about all the time that is available before too many neuro-peptides kick in due to our autonomic nervous system and with all those neuro-peptides floating around in our blood stream its a lot more difficult to wash them out and return to the calm center we prefer.

Again for those almost non-mortals it certainly is possible for the neuro-peptides to be fully counteracted by other neuro-peptides but that is another writing.

So lets take an example.   You have done meditation over some time and have been in touch with a center inside or a presence or desire to be a bodhisattva (compassionate being). You really have a feeling to do what you can to help others and know that whenever you take offense from someone or from something life has given you, you lose some of your feeling of connection to being at your balanced center.

Consider this,  something comes up like you missed the bus and now you have to wait for the next one. Great you now have time to meditate. Well if that great feeling does not kick in you start to feel disappointed or annoyed etc. Right away you need to make a quick decision before the disappointment or anger starts to automatically release those neuro-peptides. Knowing you want a quick response try this.

With your next breath you immediately picture yourself being held by your hands and feet and you hear, ” get ready” and see yourself being swung to one side as you decide to return to your center while you breath out. Then you breath in as you hear, ” get set” and you see your self being swung to the side again as you release the thought of disappointment or anger while you breath out.   Next you hear,  “go” as you see yourself being tossed into the air.  As you float down you surrender to the free fall as you return to you embodied image of a bodhisattva or some symbol of your balanced centered self and return to joy.

That is it.   All the rest is commentary.
