Aladdin’s closet is a really nice time out, refreshing like a breath of cool mountain top air. Earlier this morning I stepped in for a moment and felt the comfortable shift into more peace, calm and happiness. For a moment my plans for the rest of the day and lingering thoughts of yesterday subsided and I was able to focus my attention on the inside of the closet. I noticed a small band of light coming from the back of the closet where it met the floor. Curiosity pulled me closer and as I inspected the light beam it appeared to be a hole that was very slowly getting bigger and bigger. I pushed my hand through the opening and nothing happened and decided to try to squeeze myself through. Surprisingly the more I squeezed the more the opening relaxed and grew to just the right size as I popped into the open space on the other side of the back wall.
I was amazed to see that this room was almost an exact replica of the outer room of the closet. The only difference was the feeling of deeper peace, calm and happiness. I realized that the outer room was an antechamber and I was now closer to the source. Also, I realized that although I did not see any other opening to other deeper rooms they probably would appear as I became ready for them.
I sat down and contemplated that although basically nothing had changed around me there was an internal shift of perception. Like driving in traffic and being bothered by the waiting and then taking a slow deep breath and sensing the ability to just sit and relax; which is what I was trying to get home to do anyway. Why just sit there waiting impatiently when you can drop the thoughts of impatience. It’s all just thinking in your mind, right? Why do we sit in the prison of the mind when the door is always open?
A simple question but not so simple and answer. If you think about it we all started very young and gradually developed our responses to the circumstances of life. In the same way we can gradually shift our responses in any way we choose. Stepping into the outer antechamber of the closet was a small shift into something familiar (playing as a child).
Finding this deeper chamber was only discovered after re-establishing some of my old habits of play by visiting my Aladdin’s closet. I will let you know as I spend time and explore this deeper room where it leads me. Enjoy.
