Seeing yourself—Now 3-19-2018

Just before I entered Aladdin’s closet the clicking and flashing of cameras startled me as I was blinded by the light. Multiple frames of my entering the closet were now recorded as instants in time. When my eyes recovered my favorite painting by Rene Magritte was hanging on the back wall. Magritte had painted an open window with the view you would see if you looked out through the window as the image on that portion of the canvas that he had placed in front of the window. That is, what he painted on the canvas was exactly what you would see if you were looking out the window to the grass, trees and hills. At first it looks just like a scene through the window but then you realize that what appears to be the scene outside the window is where the canvas itself superimposes his painting on  reality.

The flash bulbs instant picture of me and the overlaying picture Magritte painted shifted my awareness into seeing myself in this moment from the outside in rather than from the inside out. It was like watching myself on a movie set as both the actor and the director as well as the operator of the filming camera.

Another way to image this is to imagine that the original painting has been replaced by a video monitor that again has the exact replica of the view out the window. In this mode you are watching a continuously flowing real-time moving image. Now have a friend go outside into the view of the monitoring cameras. Next have your friend start a Facetime call to you and hold up the phone so that you can see yourself in the large monitor in the window that shows an image of your friend’s phone showing a picture of you watching a picture of you, on the monitor and around and around and around.

It represents an outside view of exactly what you are doing right now. Let the pull of spiritual gravity pull you into the now. Just for a moment let go of past and future thought. See yourself doing whatever it is right now just as that activity, without the internal evaluation of whether you like it or not.   Transcend your minds routine thinking and for this moment just go with the flow of life as it is right now.   Like the last brush stroke of the painting by Magritte before the grass grows and the painted picture is no more than a past thought.
